8.22.08 The 2008 mountain bike season has continued to be a success for the Tough Girl Cycling Team!
Mid July played host to MSC # 5, Blast to the Mass, in Snowmass, CO. Newbie PRO Tough Girl, Melissa Marts, took to her upgrade naturally... placing 5th out of 12 in the women's professional cross country (xc) event... a grueling 19 mile race with 3700 feet of vertical gain! Tough Girls Meghan Kane and Amy Robillard took 2nd in their cross country events in the Junior Expert and Expert 40+ categories respectively with Tough Girl Lynn Bush taking 3rd in the Expert 19-29 field and a 2nd place finish in the Women's Open Super-Descent. Tough Girl Nicole Novembre competed on the road the same weekend finishing 15th in the Senior Women's Cat 1/2 Criterium State Championships in Longmont, CO.
PRO Tough Girl Judy Freeman has continued to dominate the professional xc field across the country... and we couldn't be prouder! Judy took 14th in both the xc and short track xc events at Wyndham NMBS National in New York on July 20-21st in a field of 35+ women. Then she was off to compete at the USA CYCLING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in Mount Snow, VT where she placed 8th in the professional women's xc event and 17th in the short track xc event! 8th in the nation for xc... Congrats lady! And to cap it off she now holds the title of COLORADO STATE CHAMPION in the women's professional field... a well earned title racing through rain, mud, and lightning! The state championships were held at MSC #6, The Sol Survivor, in Sol Vista, CO August 2-3. Junior Expert Tough Girl, Meghan Kane, also took a stab at the state titles coming very close with a 3rd place finish in her xc event and a 2nd place finish in the Junior Women Super-Descent!
Tough Girl Allison Seymour seems to have a knack for demanding cross country endurance events. On July 26th she took 13th in the Open women's 35+ field at the Laramie Enduro, the Wyoming Ultra Marathon Championships, a 111K xc event where she spent 8 hrs in the saddle!
Colorado Crankworx was in full effect in Winter Park, CO on July 31st - August 1st. PRO gravity racer, Bobbi Kae Watt, had an eventful weekend of races taking the WIN in the Professional women's Super-Descent and a well earned 2nd place finish in the Dual Slalom event! Nice job Lady! Cyclocross racer, Andi Burnum, took another stab at racing mountain bikes taking a win in the Sport 19-29 XC race... perhaps its time she admits she's a natural on the mountain bike!
And to round out these strong showings... the Tough Girls headed 1000 miles east to Wausau, WI to compete in the NORBA 24 Hour MTB National Championships on August 2 and 3rd. You thought 8 hrs was long in the saddle... try 24! Tough Girl Janis Sandlin entered her first SOLO 24 hour event taking the 9th spot in the women's Solo field with the support of veteran 24 hour racer Cristina Begy. Tough Girls Brenda Moczygemba, Jane Rynbrandt, Lynn Bush, and Melissa Marts competed against the strongest teams the Tough Girls have seen yet in the 24hr Women's Team Category. The gals pulled fast laps all through the night... and with the help of support members Jessica and Mike Heenan, Chris Bush, and Anuthee Huffstetter... they rounded the podium taking 3rd for the Women's Team National Championship Event.
Meanwhile... Tough Girls Judy Freeman, Lisa Matlock Strong, Lynn Bush, Nicole Novembre, and Sarah Levy have been stomping the local Wednesday night Boulder Short Track Series with numerous top 10 results and even a few top 5s in the Womens A field! ... did we mention a few women mountain bike Olympians tend to show up? And up in the hills... Tough Girls Meghan Kane, Brenda Moczygemba, Allison Seymour, and Amy Robillard have been dominating the Summit Mountain Challenge Wednesday Night Series with PINK! Nice Job Gals!
So much thanks to everyone involved in our success and for supporting us this year! Expert 40+ Tough Girl Amy Robillard led her entire cross country race only to flat on a cactus a mile from the finish... and she was taken out at the line placing 2nd... so close! Professional rider Judy Freeman took to a strong cross country race finishing 4th in the women's field of 15 and Junior Expert rider Meghan Kane finished 4th in her race as well. Tough Girl Bobbi Kae Watt made her comeback for Mountaincross placing 2nd in the Women's Professional field on what looked to be a killer course! And to top off a good run of Saturday Results... Sunday's Short Track Cross Country event went well for the gals that stuck around... with Melissa Marts in 4th, Bobbi Kae Watt in 6th, and Jane Rynbrandt in 10th.... did I mention this was a combined field of 20 Pro/Expert Women... and all three of our Expert gals were in the top 10? May 17th Battle The Bear Mountain Bike Challenge, Lakewood, CO.... Tough Girl topped podiums were the norm for the weekend at Battle The Bear. Tough Girl sisters Lisa Matlock Strong and Lynn Bush duked it out in the women's single speed class with Lynn prevailing... what can we say... long time mountain bike pro, Lisa, just had a baby 2 months ago... and Lynn had to take advantage of being able to beat her. In the Women's Expert 19-29 field Melissa Marts dominated the race taking 1st place by over 3 minutes. Junior Expert rider, Meghan Kane, took to a strong 3rd place finish in her field and cyclocross racer.... mountain bike newbie, Andi Burnum, put in a fantastic performance winning the Sport Women 19-29 field. Congrats also goes out to Tough Girl Allison Seymour who stepped up the miles competing in the Frontrange 50 Mile Endurance Race on the same course. After 5- 10 miles laps... Allison finished strong in 7th for the women's veteran field.
May 23-26th Mountain States Cup #3 Chile Challenge, Angel Fire, NM.... Memorial Day weekend's races in Angel Fire, New Mexico proved yet another opportunity for Tough Girls to shine. Tough Girl Lynn Bush earned a great WIN in the Women's Open Super-D proving that endurance and skill take the day... and followed that with a solid 5th place finish in a very technical women's Expert 19-29 cross country race. Tough Girl Pro Judy Freeman had an awesome cross country race finishing 5th in a stacked pro women's field of 20 riders. The best part of having Lasik are those ha ha moments... example: its time for bed, time for my nightly routine... and I chuckle to myself... I don't have to take my contacts out... or... I roll over and I can actually read the clock on my nightstand! It is truly AMAZING! Thanks INSIGHT LASIK!
1.19.08
My computer screen has never looked this clear!
ITS AMAZING! Today is day one after my Lasik procedure... and I am seeing 20/20 in my right eye and 20/25 in my left... and things are only going to get better!
I went in yesterday for my 1:45 appointment and was home and resting my eyes by 3:30pm. I was a bit nervous... but the staff at Insight Lasik rest assured it was normal to be nervous and that everything would be fine. Sure enough... they were right. The procedure was so fast and painless... even with my super high prescription... I was only under the laser for less than 30 seconds an eye!
As suggested by Dr Jackson I chose the Custom IntraLase procedure. This allowed for the best possible end result.... and I have to say I couldn't be happier!
THANKS to everyone at INSIGHT LASIK for making my Lasik procedure a wonderful experience!
Tough Girl Lynn

After many miles of traveling to and from Wausau, Wisconsin, Tough Girl comes home to Denver as the 24 Hour Norba National Women's Team Champions!
Lisa Matlock, Sonya Looney, Lynn Bush, and Janis Sandlin stood tough against all the elements Wisconsin had to offer. Heavy humidity, technical tight turns, and even an electrical storm were not enough to break down their lap and a half lead over team Red Red Wine. Pro Tough Girl, Lisa Martlock, led the team with the overall fastest women's lap for the weekend, while the rest of the team had consistent, fast laps throughout the race. How Tough Are Ya!
Come back soon for more photos!
